Users might also have the option to choose from various voices for Meta AI, similar to how you can select different voices for Siri, Google Assistant, or even ChatGPT.
WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new voice chat mode for its intelligent assistant, Meta AI.
First identified by WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo, this feature is expected to function similarly to the voice chat modes in ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and other AI chatbots.
According to the report, “Meta AI will continuously listen to the user once they open the chat with the bot and manually enable this mode, allowing it to understand and respond to ongoing conversations more effectively.”
Users can easily exit this mode by either leaving the chat with Meta AI or switching to text mode, providing better control over their AI interactions and safeguarding their privacy. Confirmation that Meta AI has stopped listening can be obtained by checking the privacy indicator, which shows whether the microphone is in use.
Additionally, users will be able to configure the type of speech output they want from the assistant based on their preferences. Similar to Copilot and ChatGPT in text mode, the available configurations are “Full” and “Brief.” The “Full” mode will provide detailed and comprehensive responses, while the “Brief” mode will deliver short and to-the-point answers for specific information.
Users may also have the option to choose certain voices for Meta AI from a set of options, similar to Siri, Google Assistant, or ChatGPT.
WABetaInfo also mentioned that WhatsApp plans to offer the ability to turn on captions and transcriptions when interacting with Meta AI.
Currently under development, this feature is not yet available even for beta testers. It will be released for both Android and iOS users in upcoming updates. It remains unclear if the voice chat mode will be available in all Meta AI-supported languages at launch or only in English.
