Two mountaineers, Michelle Theresa Dvorak from the USA and Fav Jane Manners from the UK, were stranded since October 3 in Uttarakhand.

Gopeshwar: In a dramatic rescue operation, two foreign women mountaineers who had been stranded at an altitude of 6,015 meters while scaling the Chaukhamba III peak in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district were rescued on Sunday morning, as per the District Disaster Management Centre.
The climbers, Michelle Theresa Dvorak (USA) and Fav Jane Manners (UK), were left stranded on October 3 after losing critical logistical and technical equipment during their ascent to the 6,995-meter-high Chaukhamba III peak.

The rescue mission, initiated by two Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters, started on Friday and was joined by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team on Saturday. The SDRF personnel, trained in mountaineering, were dispatched to assist in the search and rescue efforts.
Both mountaineers were part of a foreign expedition organized by the India Mountaineering Foundation. After three days of intense search operations, the two climbers were safely rescued and brought down from the mountain.
Their rescue highlights the expertise and collaboration between the IAF and state emergency response teams in handling high-altitude crises.
