The meeting between Trump and Netanyahu occurred just one day after Netanyahu’s discussions with U.S. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
During a recent meeting with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, former US President Donald Trump warned of the possibility of a major conflict in the Middle East and potentially a third World War if he loses the 2024 Presidential Election. Trump’s remarks came a day after Netanyahu’s discussions with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump emphasized the stakes, saying, “If we win, it’ll be very simple. It’s all going to work out and very quickly.” He further asserted, “If we don’t, you’re going to end up with major wars in the Middle East and maybe a third world war,” according to The Hill. Trump also criticized the current US leadership, stating, “You are closer to a third world war right now than at any time since the second world war. You’ve never been so close, because we have incompetent people running our country.”
This isn’t the first time Trump has warned of a third World War. He has previously indicated that the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine war could lead to global conflict. Additionally, Trump has suggested that if he doesn’t win the upcoming election, the stock market might crash.
The meeting marked the first time Trump and Netanyahu have met since Trump left office in 2020. Relations between the two had cooled after Netanyahu congratulated Biden on his 2020 election win. Despite past criticisms of Netanyahu, Trump used the meeting to reaffirm his support for Israel, highlighting his administration’s actions such as moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem and withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal.
In contrast, after Netanyahu’s talks with Biden, the White House expressed hope for a potential cease-fire and the release of hostages held by Hamas. The outcome of Netanyahu’s recent meetings with global leaders remains to be seen.
