You can follow these steps to check the app's microphone permissions:

On Android:

  1. Open Settings: Open the Settings app on your Android device.
  2. App settings: Look for the "Apps" or "Apps & notifications" option in the Settings menu and tap on it.
  3. Find WhatsApp: Scroll through the list of installed apps and locate "WhatsApp." Tap on it to access the app's settings.
  4. Permissions: Within the WhatsApp settings, you should find a section called "Permissions" or "App permissions." Tap on it to view the app's permissions.
  5. Check microphone permission: In the list of permissions, locate the "Microphone" option. It should display whether permission is granted or denied for WhatsApp. Ensure that it is set to your desired preference.

On iOS:

  1. Open Settings: Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. App settings: Scroll down and find the "Privacy" option. Tap on it to access privacy settings.
  3. Microphone settings: In the Privacy settings, locate and tap on "Microphone." You will find a list of apps that have requested access to your device's microphone.
  4. Check WhatsApp: Look for WhatsApp in the list and ensure that the toggle next to it is enabled, indicating that the app has permission to use the microphone. If it's disabled, tap on the toggle to grant microphone access.

By checking the microphone permission settings, you can verify whether WhatsApp has been granted access to your device's microphone. If you find any suspicious activity or believe that the app is using the microphone without your consent, you may consider adjusting the permissions or investigating further to ensure your privacy and security.

It's worth noting that when you actively make or receive voice or video calls within WhatsApp, the app requires microphone access to function properly. However, it should not be using the microphone in the background without a specific reason.
