The Indian Army thwarted an attack by Pakistan’s Border Action Team along the Line of Control in Kupwara on Saturday. One soldier was killed, and four others, including a Major, were injured in the operation.
At least one soldier was killed and four others, including a Major, were injured as the Indian Army thwarted an attack by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. A Pakistani terrorist was also killed in the gunfight.
Border Action Teams (BATs), comprising commandos from the Pakistan Army and terrorists, have a history of infiltrating the LoC.
The encounter, the second in Kupwara in three days, began in the Kamkari area following intelligence on potential terrorist movements.
The Army reported that the deceased and injured soldiers were evacuated from the site, with the gunfight still ongoing.
“Alert Indian Army troops foiled an action by the Border Action Team on Saturday morning in the Kamakari sector,” an Army source told news agency PTI. “One Pakistani intruder was killed.”
Two intruders managed to retreat to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) during the intense gunfight, which lasted several hours, according to sources.
On July 24, security forces neutralized an unidentified terrorist in an overnight gunfight in Kupwara’s Lolab area, which also resulted in the death of a soldier.
Sources indicate that approximately 40 to 50 Pakistani terrorists are hiding in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir’s hilly districts, prompting large-scale counter-terror operations by security forces. These terrorists, who have infiltrated the region, are highly trained and equipped with advanced weapons, including American-made M4 Carbine Rifles with night vision devices.
