A candid interview with Rohit Sharma has gone viral, where the India captain revealed that he didn’t initially plan to retire from T20Is. Rohit announced his retirement from the format in international cricket after leading India to their second T20 World Cup triumph.
A video of Rohit Sharma stating he wasn’t initially planning to retire from T20Is is making the rounds after India won the World Cup in Barbados on Saturday, June 29. Rohit led India to a historic victory, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament and defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the final. Following the win, Rohit announced he would be stepping away from T20Is.
In the video, Rohit candidly tells reporters that his original plan was to continue playing T20Is for India. However, he felt the situation had now changed, making it the perfect moment to retire after the World Cup victory.
“I was not in the mood to retire from T20Is. But the situation has arisen where I thought this is the perfect time, and nothing is better than winning the cup and saying goodbye,” Rohit said. He also mentioned he will continue playing in the IPL.

Regarding his retirement, Rohit expressed that this was the best time for him to leave the format, having always wanted to win the T20 World Cup and sign off. “That was my last game. Honestly, I have enjoyed playing this format since I started. There is no better time to say goodbye. I have loved every moment of it. I started my India career playing this format. Winning the Cup and saying goodbye was what I wanted,” he said.
Rohit will continue to play ODIs and Tests for India.
