Prime Minister Narendra Modi made history on Tuesday by becoming the first Indian prime minister to visit Brunei Darussalam on a bilateral visit. In a special gesture of welcome, he was received by Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah upon his arrival.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to engage in discussions with Brunei’s top leadership, with the goal of enhancing bilateral ties between the two nations.
Before his departure, Modi expressed his anticipation for the visit, stating, “As I embark on my first-ever bilateral visit to Brunei Darussalam, I look forward to celebrating 40 years of diplomatic relations with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other distinguished members of the Royal family, aiming to elevate our historical relationship to new heights.”
The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that the visit will bolster cooperation across various sectors, including defense, trade and investment, energy, space technology, health, capacity building, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, while also exploring opportunities for collaboration in emerging areas.
