India’s Nishad Kumar captured the silver medal in the men’s high jump T47 event at the Paris Paralympics, elevating India’s total medal count to seven. This achievement marked India’s second medal of the day.

Kumar’s highest jump of 2.04 meters was his season’s best. Roderick Townsend of the USA claimed the gold with a jump of 2.12 meters, while Georgii Margiev of the Neutral Paralympic Athletes secured the bronze with a jump of 2.00 meters.

Nishad Kumar had previously won a silver medal in the Tokyo Paralympics, clearing 2.06 meters.

The T47 classification is for athletes with below-elbow or wrist amputations or impairments.

Earlier, Preethi Pal made history by becoming the first Indian woman track and field athlete to win two medals at a single Paralympics. She secured bronze in the 200m T35 category with a personal best time of 30.01 seconds.

At 23, Preethi Pal is only the second Indian woman to win two medals in a single Paralympics, following shooter Avani Lekhara, who won a gold and a bronze in Tokyo three years ago.
