A Mumbai woman has alleged that her photograph was misused on BharatMatrimony’s elite subscription service, appearing under a fabricated profile, sparking widespread discussions about the platform’s credibility. The woman, Swati Mukund, shared her experience in a now-viral video, which has since prompted responses from social media users who reported similar encounters.

In the video, Mukund, who met her husband outside any matrimonial platform, criticized BharatMatrimony for allegedly allowing her photo to be used without consent. She dubbed her experience the “BharatMatrimony Scam” and cautioned users to exercise caution when using the service.

Claims of Lax Verification for ‘Elite’ Users

Holding a screenshot displaying her image and the term “BharatMatrimony Scam,” Mukund expressed her disbelief, stating, “They created a fake profile for me under their so-called elite service, where they claim thorough vetting.” The profile, listed under the name “Nithya Raja Sekar,” described her as a fitness professional from Chennai, despite her never registering on the platform.

Mukund emphasized the disturbing nature of her discovery, given BharatMatrimony’s claims of stringent screening. She asked, “How does this happen on a paid, ‘elite’ service?” before warning users, “This is a reminder to exercise discretion on these platforms. Profiles aren’t always as they appear.”

Social Media Users Share Similar Stories

The video quickly drew responses from users with similar grievances. One commenter noted, “I found multiple profiles with my photo under their elite verification. The issue seems to be with their algorithm.” Another stated, “After a year of using the app, I found many suspicious profiles with no user engagement and minimal support from customer service.”

One user highlighted the deeper privacy implications, writing, “What if someone never finds out their image was misused? This is both sad and shocking.”
