Ratan Tata
The Maharashtra Cabinet has officially passed a resolution recommending the name of industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata for the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor. This resolution will be submitted to the Centre for approval.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde made the announcement during a cabinet meeting where tributes were paid to Tata, a Padma Vibhushan awardee, who passed away on Wednesday night. Tata’s last rites will be conducted with full state honors.
Shiv Sena leader Rahool Kanal had earlier urged the Chief Minister to propose Tata’s name, emphasizing his visionary leadership and philanthropic contributions. Kanal highlighted Tata’s efforts toward animal welfare and establishing cancer hospitals for the underprivileged as fitting reasons for the Bharat Ratna nomination.
Ratan Tata, born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, served as the Chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 to 2012 and was later appointed Chairman Emeritus. He also chaired two of India’s largest philanthropic trusts, the Ratan Tata Trust and the Dorabji Tata Trust.
