Story:
Kanguva is a period action movie where Suriya plays the role of Francis, a bounty hunter. He faces competition from his ex-girlfriend (Disha Patani), and one day, he meets a boy in Goa that brings back memories of his past life. The movie then shifts to an ancient time, where we see Kanguva, a warrior protecting his clan. As the story unfolds, we learn about Kanguva’s epic battles with rival clans. Is Francis the reincarnation of Kanguva? What is his mission? Watch Kanguva to find out.
Positives:
Suriya shines in his dual role as Francis and Kanguva. His portrayal of a warrior sacrificing everything for his clan is one of the movie’s highlights. The film offers grand visuals, intense action, and emotional moments, all of which fans expect in a Suriya movie.
Disha Patani does well in her glamorous role, and Bobby Deol also gives a strong performance as the main antagonist. His character brings a lot of depth, making him a worthy opponent to Suriya’s Kanguva. Other actors like Natarajan Subramaniam, KS Ravikumar, Yogi Babu, Kovai Sarala, and Mansoor Ali Khan also deliver solid performances.
The cameo by Karthi is a nice surprise, and the underwater sequences in the climax are visually impressive. The emotional scenes between Chinna Babu and Suriya are also well done.
Negatives:
Although Kanguva has a lot of emotional depth and stunning visuals, some parts of the story feel a bit slow and underwhelming. The romance between Suriya and Disha Patani doesn’t quite hit the mark, and this weakens the overall impact of the film. The movie couldn’t live up to the high expectations set by the promotions.
Director Siva does a great job with the action scenes, especially the climax, but the pacing of some scenes is slow, and the emotional drama sometimes feels stretched out.
Technical Aspects:
Cinematographer Vetri Palaniswami deserves praise for the stunning visuals, especially in the action scenes. Editing by Nishadh Yusuf is smooth, and the songs by Devi Sri Prasad are decent, with well-choreographed picturizations. The background score adds to the mood of the film, but it’s nothing extraordinary. The production values are top-notch, with grand sets and high-quality filmmaking.
Verdict:
Kanguva is an action-packed and emotional drama, with impressive performances, especially from Suriya. The film has some amazing action scenes and surprising elements in the climax, but its slow pacing, predictable screenplay, and weak romance fail to make it a must-watch. It’s an entertaining watch primarily for Suriya’s fans, who will appreciate his performance.
