Kangana portrays the story of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film.

Mumbai: After several postponements, the much-anticipated film “Emergency,” led by actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut, is now confirmed for release on September 6. Ranaut, who previously delayed the movie due to her involvement in the Lok Sabha 2024 election campaign, took to Instagram recently to share the news of its imminent big-screen debut. Accompanying her announcement was a fresh poster unveiling.

Speaking on the project, Ranaut expressed her profound inspiration drawn from William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth,” highlighting the theme of unchecked ambition leading to catastrophic consequences in “Emergency.” She emphasized the significance of this chapter in Indian democracy, eagerly anticipating its global premiere on September 6, 2024.

Accompanying the poster reveal, Ranaut captioned it with, “The Beginning of the 50th Year of Independent India’s Darkest Chapter. Announcing #KanganaRanaut’s #Emergency In Cinemas on September 6, 2024. The Explosive Saga of the Most Controversial Episode of the History of Indian Democracy, #EmergencyOn6Sept in cinemas worldwide.”

The narrative revolves around the tenure of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the Emergency declared in 1975, lasting 21 months, citing perceived internal and external threats. Alongside Ranaut, the film features a stellar cast including Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, and the late Satish Kaushik.

“Emergency” is jointly produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, with Sanchit Balhara handling the music and Ritesh Shah contributing to the screenplay and dialogue.
