Mate XT Launches Just Hours After iPhone 16, Garners 5 Million Pre-Orders

Huawei’s Mate XT is the first commercially available smartphone featuring a display that unfolds into three distinct segments.

Huawei introduced the Mate XT Ultimate Design on Tuesday, marking the debut of the world’s first tri-fold smartphone. This cutting-edge device was revealed mere hours after Apple launched its iPhone 16 series, intensifying competition in the Chinese smartphone market. The Mate XT boasts a massive 10.2-inch display when fully unfolded, utilizing flexible materials that allow it to bend in multiple directions. It features a triple rear camera setup, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. Powering the device is a robust 5,600mAh battery.

Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design: Price and Availability

The Mate XT Ultimate Design starts at CNY 19,999 (approximately Rs. 2,35,900) for the 16GB RAM and 256GB storage variant. Additional models include 512GB and 1TB storage options, priced at CNY 21,999 (roughly Rs. 2,59,500) and CNY 23,999 (around Rs. 2,83,100), respectively. Available in Dark Black and Rui Red, the foldable phone is currently open for pre-order on Huawei Vmall, with sales beginning in China on September 20.

Key Specifications and Features

The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design runs on HarmonyOS 4.2 and supports dual SIM (Nano+Nano). Its unique flexible LTPO OLED display can shift between three screen sizes: 10.2 inches (3,184×2,232 pixels) when fully unfolded, 7.9 inches (2,048×2,232 pixels) when folded once, and 6.4 inches (1,008×2,232 pixels) when folded a second time.

Although Huawei has not disclosed the chipset used in the device, the phone comes equipped with 16GB of RAM and is offered in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage configurations.

In terms of photography, the Mate XT sports a 50-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a variable aperture ranging from f/1.2 to f/4.0. It also includes a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture, and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto camera offering 5.5x optical zoom, OIS, and an f/3.4 aperture. For selfies and video calls, an 8-megapixel camera is housed in the front display’s hole-punch cutout.

Connectivity and Battery

The device supports 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, and a USB 3.1 Type-C port. A side-mounted fingerprint sensor offers biometric security. The Mate XT is powered by a 5,600mAh battery that supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. It measures 156.7x73x12.8mm (single screen), 156.7x143x7.45mm (dual screen), and 156.7x219x3.6mm (triple screen) and weighs 298 grams.
