New Delhi: Today, Google marked the anniversary of beloved Indian playback singer KK’s Bollywood debut by dedicating a special animated doodle in his honor. The doodle celebrates the late singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, widely known as KK, showcasing him holding a microphone, singing, with musical notes and star emojis decorating the Google logo. KK’s debut song “Chhod Aaye Hum” from the political thriller Maachis released on this day in 1996, launching his illustrious career in the music industry.

Google’s tribute, highlighted in a note on their website, reads: “This Doodle celebrates Krishnakumar Kunnath, also known as KK, a successful Indian playback singer most known for his versatility. He is widely remembered for recording songs in several languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Bengali, Assamese, and Gujarati.” KK’s dynamic vocal talent made him a favorite across genres and languages, as he recorded over 500 songs in Hindi and more than 200 in Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, and Malayalam during his 30-year career.

Known for timeless hits such as “Khuda Jaane,” “Ankhon Mein Teri,” and “Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai,” KK captured the hearts of millions. Tragically, he passed away on May 31, 2022, in Kolkata, shortly after performing at a concert. Following his death, KK’s son Nakul Krishna shared a heartfelt note on Instagram, expressing the profound loss and love for his father, saying, “I’ve only now realized the privilege you granted me… The greatest privilege I ever had was the opportunity to witness you every day.”

KK’s music journey began in 1994 when he submitted a demo tape to a prominent Indian artist, which led him to perform commercial jingles. Remarkably, he recorded nearly 3,500 jingles in 11 languages before his Bollywood breakthrough. In 1999, KK released his first album, Pal, which received a warm response and remains a beloved classic among fans.
