Microsoft considers funding Zupee, an Indian gaming company

The Redmond technology behemoth has spoken with Zupee about a possible funding round.

Microsoft is considering a stake in Zupee, an Indian online gaming company. If the talks go well, the play-to-earn gaming company could receive an investment round worth more than $100 million.

Two sources familiar with the matter told TechCrunch that discussions were already underway, and Microsoft may see this as a way to expand their online cloud services portfolio.

According to the sources, the agreement is still in its early stages, and there is a chance that it will not be implemented. Microsoft's beef appears to be with Zupee's pay-to-win service, which can also be considered gambling. If the agreement is reached, Microsoft will provide Azure and other cloud services.

Zupee recently announced a collaboration with Jio Platforms Limited, which will enable them to release games in more languages. The funds will be used to develop new products and improve user experiences, according to the company. It also wishes to expand into new markets.

In exchange, Zupee will provide free access to all of its games to Jio and Jio Phone customers.

"Indian smartphone exports are expected to grow 15 times from USD 3.6 billion in 2020-21 to USD 55 billion in 2025-26." "As a homegrown start-up, we want to put Indian products and games on all those devices that can tell the world about India," said Dilsher Singh, Founder & CEO of Zupee.
