A creative Switch owner discovers a hilarious and unexpected new use for the augmented reality game Mario Kart: Home Circuit.
A creative Switch owner's hilarious alternative use of Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit has gone viral. While Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is an augmented reality game that transforms the player's home into the vibrant and imaginative world of Mario Kart, one player has a slightly more mundane - albeit ingenious - task in mind.
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit was first announced in Fall 2020 as part of Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct, and it is one of the most unique titles offered by Nintendo in its illustrious history. The game makes use of real-world physical Mario and Luigi karts with a camera attached to the back of each kart that live streams to the player's Switch. Players configure a series of gates in their preferred configuration and can choose from a variety of courses, cups, and other modes that incorporate the surrounding environment into their game.
A TikTok user prettytragichun_ created the viral moment from Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which has already received over one million views and 81,000 likes. In the seven-second video, the gamer drives Mario under a cupboard in what appears to be a kitchen. Rather than getting down on all fours to inspect the hard-to-reach space's cleanliness, they use Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit's camera to survey.
The camera reveals that the space is filthy, prompting numerous comments from other users. The video ends with Mario stepping out from under the cupboard and looking directly at the camera, prompting several jokes such as "Mario side eye" and "Mario: 'damn it's this bad huh." Others praised the unconventional use of the game, calling the move "smart." While most Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit players make headlines for the ingenuity behind special tracks, such as one fan's 3D-printed Rainbow Road track, the player above's ingenuity is far more out of the box.
While Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is a one-of-a-kind title, it will soon face direct competition. The creator of the aforementioned title is now working on Hot Wheels: Rift Rally, which uses the same technology as Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit. The upcoming title will employ gateways to effectively track the RC car's movement as it zips around the player's residences. Hot Wheels: Rift Rally promises a tonne of customization, with over 140 potential vehicle options for players to choose from, though it's unclear whether it'll be small enough to check under cupboards.
