Ken Levine reveals his latest project.
Judas, the first title from Ken Levine's Ghost Story Games, has been announced.
Judas, which was announced at the 2022 Game Awards, is a "narrative FPS" developed by Levine's team. Following the release of BioShock Infinite, Levine renamed his Irrational Games studio Ghost Story Games and set out to create a game made of "narrative Legos" that would provide each player with a unique experience.
Judas is the fruit of Ghost Story's labour. Judas, described as a "narrative FPS" by Steam, appears to be in the vein of BioShock. The trailer's description, which can be found below, reads: "A disintegrating starship." A desperate escape strategy. You are the enigmatic and troubled Judas. Your only chance of survival is to form alliances with your worst enemies. Will you work together to repair what you've broken, or will you let it burn?"
The atmospheric trailer features everything you'd expect from an Irrational (now Ghost Story) game, set to the popular sea shanty "Johnny, Leave Her." There are powers that come to life in the player's hand, an eclectic cast of characters, and that general sense of calm foreboding that Rapture always instilled in you.
The biblical significance of the name Judas, combined with the trailer's description, suggests that this game will be focused on Machiavellian political games, in addition to the usual action found in Levine's work.
According to our recent interview with Levine, the term "immersive sim" is probably not one he wants to be associated with Judas.
It's unclear how much of Levine's "narrative block" idea has actually materialized. No other information is available on the game's release date, but it is currently on Steam's Wishlist.
