The allegation referenced BJP politician Tarvinder Singh Marwah, who reportedly made explicit death threats against Gandhi on September 11, according to the filed complaint.

Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu and Rahul Gandhi

The Congress Party has officially filed a complaint against several BJP leaders and their allies, accusing them of issuing “open threats” to harm or eliminate Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The complaint, submitted by Congress Treasurer Ajay Maken at Tughlak Road Police Station in New Delhi, also sent a copy to the Chief Election Commissioner of India.

The complaint specifically names BJP leader Tarvinder Singh Marwah, who, according to the report, “openly issued an assassination threat” against Gandhi on September 11. Marwah allegedly warned that if Gandhi did not “mend his ways,” he would face the same fate as his grandmother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The complaint further lists other inflammatory remarks made by BJP allies. Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad is accused of announcing a ₹11 lakh bounty for anyone who “cuts the tongue” of Rahul Gandhi on September 16. Additionally, Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Bittu and Uttar Pradesh Minister Raghuraj Singh are accused of labeling Gandhi as the “number one terrorist of India.”

In the complaint, Congress argues that these threats are part of a larger “well-planned criminal conspiracy” orchestrated by the BJP and its allies to provoke unrest and incite violence. The party has called for an FIR to be registered under relevant sections of the law against the individuals involved.

According to the Congress, these threats stem from Gandhi’s consistent advocacy for marginalized communities, including women, youth, and Dalits, and are indicative of growing hostility from the BJP due to his criticism of their policies.

The party awaits further action from law enforcement regarding this serious matter.
