Police believe the body parts were stored in the refrigerator for approximately 2 to 3 days. The area surrounding the crime scene has been sealed off as further investigations are ongoing.
A scene from the crime site where the dismembered body of a woman was discovered inside a house in Bengaluru.
In a shocking discovery, the dismembered body of a 26-year-old woman, identified as Mahalakshmi, was found inside a refrigerator at her residence in Bengaluru’s Vyalikaval area, police confirmed on Saturday.
Authorities believe the body had been stored in the fridge for approximately 2 to 3 days before being discovered. Mahalakshmi lived alone in a one-bedroom apartment, and her remains were found chopped into multiple pieces.
Senior police officers sealed the area, and forensic teams, along with a dog squad, were deployed to gather evidence and search for clues. “The incident likely took place a few days ago,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (West Zone), Sathish Kumar. “We have identified the victim, but further investigation is ongoing.”
The gruesome crime has sparked comparisons to the 2022 murder of Shraddha Walkar in Delhi, where her partner killed her, dismembered her body, and stored the remains in a fridge before slowly disposing of them over several weeks.
Investigations are underway as police work to piece together the events leading up to this disturbing crime.
