Operatio Bhediya: The latest attack occurred in Tepra village within the district.

Bahraich: A wolf, believed to be part of a pack responsible for at least seven deaths, is seen being transported in a cage after its capture.

In a tragic incident late last night in Tepra village, Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, a three-year-old girl lost her life, and two women sustained injuries after being attacked by a pack of wolves. The wolves, which have been terrorizing the district for months, also attacked a nine-year-old boy on Saturday, authorities reported.

The pack, responsible for multiple fatalities in the region, has spurred the authorities to launch a dedicated operation, dubbed “Operatio Bhediya,” to capture the man-eating wolves. So far, four wolves have been apprehended, but two remain at large.

“This recent incident occurred in Tepra village. One woman was injured and is currently receiving medical treatment. The wolves seem to strike after a gap of 5-6 days, and the attacks are happening in different villages, which poses a significant challenge to our operation. The Forest Department is working tirelessly to catch these wolves,” said Bahraich District Magistrate Monika Rani in a statement to ANI.

Chief Forest Conservator (Central Zone) Renu Singh reviewed the ongoing ‘Operatio Bhediya’ on Sunday, highlighting the grim toll the wolves have taken—seven children and a woman have been killed in the past two months alone.

Authorities are utilizing drones to track the remaining wolves’ movements. “We have been continuously flying drones. Four wolves have been captured so far, but two are still on the loose. Our teams are patrolling the area round the clock, and we hope to capture the remaining wolves soon,” Singh stated.

Despite efforts, the two wolves were spotted again on Saturday night and Sunday morning but managed to evade capture. Singh urged the local residents to take precautions.

“My strong appeal to the people is to sleep indoors. The previous victims were attacked while sleeping outside. While we cannot change the behavior of wild animals, we can certainly be more vigilant,” she added.

In a separate incident on Saturday night, a nine-year-old boy and a 55-year-old man were attacked by a wolf while they were sleeping outside their homes. Both survived the attacks but remain shaken by the experience.
