Prime Minister Modi Consults with Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level review meeting today to evaluate the deteriorating security situation in Jammu and Kashmir following a spate of encounters between security forces and terrorists over the past four days.
The Prime Minister, in consultation with Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, was briefed comprehensively on the security landscape of the Union Territory and the ongoing counter-terrorism operations conducted by the armed forces.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Prime Minister Modi has directed authorities to mobilize the full spectrum of the armed forces’ counter-terror capabilities in response to the escalating threat.
Prime Minister Modi engaged in discussions with Home Minister Shah regarding the deployment of additional security forces and intensification of counter-terrorism efforts. He also conferred with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to assess the ground situation in the region, receiving updates on the measures being implemented by the local administration.
The recent surge in violence includes multiple encounters between security personnel and terrorists. Notably, an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district yesterday resulted in the injury of a soldier, marking the second incident in Doda and the fourth in the Union Territory within the past 96 hours. Additionally, on June 9, terrorists targeted a bus carrying pilgrims in the Reasi district, resulting in the loss of nine lives.
Just two days ago, another encounter erupted in the Kathua region of south Kashmir, further exacerbating tensions in the volatile region.
A senior police officer disclosed that a group comprising three to four terrorists was located in the mountainous terrain of Doda, prompting an ongoing search operation to neutralize the threat.
The heightened violence was underscored by an attack on a joint checkpost in the upper reaches of Chattergalla on Tuesday night, where five soldiers of the Rashtriya Rifles and a Special Police Officer sustained injuries. Reinforcements have been swiftly deployed to bolster security in the area.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, security forces successfully neutralized a suspected Pakistani terrorist in Kathua district, culminating in the death of a CRPF soldier during the encounter.
Prime Minister Modi’s decisive response underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir amid escalating tensions with terrorist elements.
