OpenAI states that this feature is currently accessible to paid subscribers and SearchGPT waitlist users, with plans to expand availability soon to free, enterprise, and educational users.

ChatGPT Unveils Live Web Search for Real-Time Information Access

ChatGPT

In a significant leap for AI-powered chat tools, OpenAI has rolled out live web search capabilities for ChatGPT, giving users real-time access to online information. Initially accessible to paid subscribers and those on the SearchGPT waitlist, this new feature is set to be expanded to free, enterprise, and educational users in the near future.

This addition enables ChatGPT to fetch up-to-date data from the internet, making it a powerful tool for those needing accurate, current information. With the web search tool seamlessly integrated into ChatGPT’s interface, users can now let the AI pull in real-time results for certain queries automatically, or choose to activate it manually for specific searches. This enhancement positions ChatGPT as a direct competitor to Microsoft’s Copilot and Google’s Gemini, both of which already offer similar live internet access.

Adam Fry, OpenAI’s search team lead, recently demonstrated the tool’s capabilities, showing off interactive features like stock charts, earnings reports, and links to original news sources. This new functionality is available across iOS, Android, and desktop platforms, enhancing ChatGPT’s usability across devices.

According to OpenAI, the live search capability is powered by an advanced version of GPT-4, initially tested as a prototype in July. OpenAI emphasizes that while it will refresh training data regularly, live search results are separate from these updates, ensuring ChatGPT’s responses remain both timely and well-informed.
