Typhoon Yagi, the strongest tropical cyclone to hit Asia this year and the second most powerful storm globally after Hurricane Beryl, has caused extensive damage throughout Southeast Asia.

Typhoon Yagi, Asia’s most powerful tropical cyclone this year and the second strongest globally after Hurricane Beryl, has caused widespread devastation across Southeast Asia, particularly in Vietnam.

In response, India launched “Operation Sadbhav” to provide humanitarian aid to Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar. The Ministry of External Affairs announced via X (formerly Twitter) that India is sending urgent relief to those affected.

As part of the mission, India dispatched 10 tons of aid, including dry rations, clothing, and medicines, to Myanmar aboard the naval ship INS Satpura. The Eastern Naval Command swiftly mobilized and loaded supplies, including drinking water and medicines, onto the warship in Visakhapatnam for deployment to Yangon.

In addition, 35 tons of aid, including water purification items, blankets, and kitchen utensils, was sent to Vietnam via an Indian Airforce C-17 transport aircraft. Laos also received 10 tons of aid, including hygiene kits and mosquito nets, transported by the IAF.

“Operation Sadbhav” aligns with India’s “Act East Policy” and reflects the country’s commitment to humanitarian assistance in the ASEAN region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar extended their condolences to their Vietnamese counterparts following the disaster. Typhoon Yagi, which struck on September 7, has claimed at least 292 lives in Vietnam and 113 in Myanmar, with many still missing.
