Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Monday as he arrived in Delhi for a two-day visit aimed at deepening bilateral ties across various sectors.

Sheikh Khaled, on his first visit to India as Crown Prince, was invited by PM Modi. The leaders met at Hyderabad House, where they engaged in discussions on expanding cooperation in key areas. The Ministry of External Affairs, sharing photos of the two leaders, described Sheikh Khaled as a “close friend.”

During his visit, Sheikh Khaled will meet President Droupadi Murmu and pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. He is also set to travel to Mumbai to attend a business forum, where prominent business leaders from both nations will discuss opportunities for collaboration.

India and the UAE, whose relations were upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership following PM Modi’s visit to the UAE in 2015, have enjoyed strong ties in recent years. Cooperation spans across politics, trade, investment, energy, technology, and culture.

In 2022, the two countries signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), followed by the implementation of a Local Currency Settlement System in 2023, facilitating cross-border transactions in Indian Rupees and UAE Dirhams. Bilateral trade between India and the UAE reached around USD 85 billion in 2022-23, with the UAE emerging as one of India’s top investors.
