Mr. Shah stated that the Modi government is dedicated to generating numerous opportunities for the people of Ladakh.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the creation of five new districts in Ladakh today. The new districts are Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang.

Mr. Shah stated, “The Modi government is dedicated to providing ample opportunities for the people of Ladakh. By establishing these new districts, we aim to bring governance closer to the people and enhance their access to services.”

Ladakh was designated a Union Territory in 2019 following the revocation of Article 370, which ended Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and split it into two Union Territories. As a Union Territory, Ladakh falls under the direct administration of the Home Ministry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his support on X, saying, “The formation of these five new districts is a significant move towards improved governance and prosperity. With Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang now receiving focused attention, services and opportunities will be more accessible to the people. Congratulations to the residents of these regions.”

Currently, Ladakh consists of two districts, Leh and Kargil, each managed by its autonomous district council. With the addition of the new districts, the total number in Ladakh will increase to seven.
