On July 30, Ayodhya police arrested Moid Khan, the owner of a bakery in Bhadarsa Nagar under the jurisdiction of Purakalandar police station, and his employee Raju Khan. They are accused of raping a minor two months ago and recording the act.

On August 3, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya accused the Samajwadi Party (SP) of “protecting rapists” after its leader Akhilesh Yadav called for a DNA test of the accused in the Ayodhya gang rape case, where a 12-year-old victim became pregnant.

In response, senior SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav demanded a narco test of Maurya to determine “who is engaging in cheap politics on sensitive issues.”

The Ayodhya police arrested Moid Khan, a bakery owner, and his employee Raju Khan on July 30 for allegedly raping the minor two months earlier and recording the act.

Akhilesh Yadav argued that without a DNA test, the BJP’s accusations would be seen as biased. The BJP countered, accusing the SP of defending a “paedophile” and displaying a “boys will be boys” mentality, while noting the silence of the INDIA bloc leaders.

Deputy Chief Minister Maurya, in a Hindi post on ‘X’, stated, “It is the Samajwadi Party’s innate nature to protect rapists. If the rapist is a Muslim, then the entire Saifai family puts its weight to save him. The SP will be wiped out.” Saifai is the native place of Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Reacting to Maurya’s post, Shivpal Yadav condemned the Ayodhya incident and supported a narco test for both the victim and the accused, as well as for BJP leaders allegedly politicizing the issue.

Shivpal Yadav further claimed that the BJP’s actions are driven by their electoral defeat and the approaching assembly bypolls, urging SP workers to remain vigilant. Bypolls are set for 10 Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh later this year.

BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, have alleged that Moid Khan is associated with the SP and is part of Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad’s team. Adityanath brought up the incident in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly to target the SP, stating that the party has not taken any action against Khan, who was involved in the rape of a 12-year-old girl.
