Nine Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district on Tuesday. The operation is ongoing, with sporadic gunfire reported in the area, though no security personnel have been injured so far.
The encounter took place around 10:30 am during a search operation conducted by the police, following intelligence reports of Naxalite presence along the border of Dantewada and Bijapur districts. The Naxalites involved were from the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) company No. 2. Security forces recovered the bodies of the Naxalites, along with several weapons, including Self Loading Rifles (SLR) and 12 Bore guns.
This incident comes on the heels of three villagers being killed by Naxalites in Bijapur district last week, suspected of being police informers. The security operation also follows Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent visit to Chhattisgarh, where he met with Directors General of Police from seven states to discuss strategies against Naxalite activities.
