Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expresses sorrow over the incident and announces ₹4 lakh compensation for the affected families.
Bhopal: Tragedy struck in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district this morning as nine children lost their lives and several others were injured when a wall collapsed at the Hardaul Baba temple in Shahpur during a religious ceremony. The injured have been rescued and taken to the hospital.
Rescue operations were carried out by the police with support from local residents. Visuals show an earthmover at the scene, working to clear the rubble. District officials have reported that the deceased children were aged between 10 and 15 years.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his sorrow over the incident, stating, “I am deeply pained by this tragedy. I hope for a swift recovery for the injured and extend my condolences to the families who have lost their children. The government will provide each affected family with ₹4 lakh in assistance.”
This incident follows another wall collapse in Rewa district just a day earlier, which resulted in the deaths of four children, aged 5 to 7 years, who were returning from school. The homeowners responsible for that collapse have been arrested.
The frequent wall collapses are attributed to heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh. This year, rain-related incidents have claimed the lives of 200 people in the state. Additionally, 206 houses have been completely destroyed, and 2,403 have sustained partial damage.
